who we help
At Nottingham Grief Support, we offer specialist support for adults (18+) whose bereavement is related to substance use.
We make no judgement about substance use or the complicated thoughts and feelings that are part of grief related to substance use. When we talk about bereavement by substance use, that might include people whose death was directly related to substance use, people who were in recovery from substance use or in treatment at the time of their death, or people who may have been using substances at the time of their death but were not accessing treatment. We also support those who are grieving and using substances.
We also support those who are expecting or fearing a bereavement, whether that is grief for someone using substances, or where the person grieving is using substances themselves.
This project is funded by Nottingham City Council and delivers support to those who live within Nottingham City boundary, or who are registered with a Nottingham City GP. You do not need to have any diagnosis or other professional support relating to your bereavement to access our service.
If you are not sure whether you would be able to access support from us, please contact the team and we will be able to talk to you about your specific circumstances.
We aim to work flexibly to accommodate the different needs of all those accessing our support. This might include provision of large print resources, access to videos, or remote sessions for those who are not able to travel.
You can find more information about the support we offer here.
