grief support

Grief can be hard for anybody to cope with. We know that when the bereavement is related to the use of alcohol or drugs, it can be even more difficult to grieve. This can be because of the pressures of coping with the person’s alcohol or drug use when they were alive, the circumstances of their death, or stigma relating to drug and alcohol use.

At Nottingham Grief Support, we offer specialist support for adults bereaved by substance use. We make no judgement about substance use or the complicated thoughts and feelings that are part of grieving for somebody who has died because of substance use. If you would like more information about who we can support, please click here.

The support we offer is structured. We will listen and work with you to set goals for our work together. After assessment of your needs, we can offer up to 6 sessions of individual work, followed by access to a peer-support group for people bereaved by substance use.
