individual grief support FAQs

What does individual grief support involve?

We offer up to 6 sessions of individual (1-1) support, usually delivered weekly. These sessions are not therapy, but a space for you to explore your experiences in a supportive space and find a way to move forward with grief.

Our individual sessions are structured, but are personalised to you and the way you’re feeling. We will listen and work with you to set goals for our work together. Sessions last for approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

What’s discussed in individual sessions will remain confidential, unless we are worried that you or someone else is at risk.

Will I have an assessment?

We will carry out an assessment with you so that we have a good understanding of your feelings and what you are hoping to gain from accessing grief support. In your assessment, we will ask some questions about your bereavement and how it has affected you.

If you attend one of our drop-ins, we can do this assessment with you in the session – you don’t need to have had an assessment to attend one of these sessions.

How many sessions can I access?

We can offer up to 6 individual sessions with a Grief Intervention Worker, which can be delivered in person or remotely.

Will I have exactly 6 sessions?

You do not have to attend all of the sessions if you don’t feel you need them. After you have completed up to 6 individual sessions, you can continue to access support from our peer support groups.
